Alice In Wonderland bookmarks

"Hey, I'd love a set of bookmarks, of Alice In Wonderland" asks very patient Brian.

Sure, anything or one in particular you'd like me to draw?

"Let your mind wander. I would like at least one to be of the Jabberwocky"

That was a fucking month ago. And I'm pretty sure that he did not mean our favorite group from ABC either. And since Brian waited nicely so long, I think he'd like the set of 4 bookmarks(from a 9x12 Strathmore 300 series Bristol) to tell the story of the Jabberwocky.

So let's be responsible and get this done....

After reading the prom a couple of times, these were the four images I chose. Not too familiar with this from Through The Looking Glass? Well, neither was I. So here's each bookmark and the breakdown of the poem.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

For this, I really focused on the "beware" and feeling of dread and danger that's being told.

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!"

(and in the next verse)

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

I wanted to bring the "It seems very pretty," she said when she had finished it, "but it's rather hard to understand!" Alice in now, while at the same time giving a visual of what I was seeing be described. And I made every effort to not look at previous drawing of the Jabberwocky, especially John Tenniel's.

And as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! and through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

And because of that, my favorite of the three has the Jabberwocky look more like a sea creature with talons than the forest creatures that it is most drawn like. Man, do I like this drawing.

He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. "And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy. 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.

This last bookmark ends with Humpty Dumpty, as he was trying to explain this tale to Alice. And I love to do word balloons. And I imagine this smarmy egg chortles all the goddamn time.

Well, Brian, I hope you like these as much as I fucking enjoyed drawing them. And now it might be time for some tasty beverages and another literary classic of film, Half Baked.
