Trying new things

There are times that really frustrate the fuck out of me as an artist. When I really want/need to draw something, but I just can't figure it out. Can't write the story that I've got in my head. No desire to draw what I've already written. Or just not wanting to draw anything at all.

Most times I'll dive into Google Images to try to get some kind of visual inspiration. Like when a couple of days ago I came across old submarines and vintage Russian escape suits. So of course I will draw these things for no reason other than it will make me happy.

And here are my pencils. I had a lot of fun with shapes(particularly circles) and my line. At this point I realized that I needed to head out to meet up with people, so inking will have to wait for a bit.

It's been a while since I inked something with a brush, so I figured fuck it let's do that today. I did go in to the secondary figure with a small branch dipped in Sumi ink to try to contrast him more with the foreground figure.

I really want to get better at adding tone to my inked work. I feel like this is the most successful that I've been, as it isn't too overwhelming and drowning everything in a sea of grey. This also gave me some ideas to try out to help save me some time and aggravation for the next drawing.

Like all of my other not awful computer coloring, I grabbed chunks of color from this drawing to blow up and layer around the line drawing and tones. This took a big chunk of time, because I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get the color I see in my head while not losing the line work. Also, this is the exact inverse of the color scheme I had initially gone for(the background circle was a calming blue, everything else was RED).

And here's a side by side by side by side look at this drawing. Hopefully the fun I had here gets me going again. But now it's time to be thirsty and watch sportsball with some pals.
